Celebrating our 15th Year
REEB was founded in 2011 by legendary craft brewer Dale Katechis. Yes, that Dale. After his bike was stolen, he decided to build something better. Originally formed as part of the Oskar Blues Brewery family, REEB set out to build bikes in small batches with the same attention to detail and craftsmanship that defined their beer.
It wasn’t as big a pivot as it might sound. Oskar Blues was already deeply embedded in cycling culture, where weekly group rides were far more common than board meetings. REEB grew naturally out of that environment, built by riders, for riders, with an emphasis on quality, craftsmanship, community, and doing things differently.
During those early days the REEB crew loved riding hard and they loved single speeds. Product development grew out of necessity and in 2014 REEB revolutionized hardtails for more aggressive trail riding by introducing their proprietary American made ABT tubesets in collaboration with True Temper and Henry James Bicycles.
The boundary breaking tubeset included a larger 31.6mm diameter seat tube to accommodate dropper seatbosts, 44mm headtube (to accommodate tapered steerer tube forks) paired with an oversized 1.75-inch down tube adding to the frame’s strength to handle the demands of more aggressive riding and the increased leverage of longer-travel forks while providing stable bottom bracket to enhance the bike’s precise handling and stiffness for use of the Gates Carbon Drive system.
Steel has been part of REEB’s story since the beginning, but when we released the Sqweeb, our first full suspension bike in 2018, we turned to aluminum. We wanted our bike to be strong, light and built of metal, and at the time aluminum was the best material for the job. Riders and reviewers that rode the Sqweeb (squishy REEB) all agreed that the bike was pretty awesome.
In 2020 we released the ReDikyelous which was a more capable version than our previous hardtails. Designed around a 140mm fork, super short chainstays and low toptube. The ReDikyelous was built to fill the gap from our hardtail frames all the way up to our 150mm travel Sqweeb. Prior to it's release, Jeff Lenosky rode his prototype UP the legendary Horse Thief's Bench trail in Fruita, CO. You can check out the un-cut ride HERE.
2022 was an exciting year for REEB with the introduction of the SST. The emergence of additive manufacturing, specifically 3D printing stainless steel, allowed us to develop a FULL steel suspension bike and return to our roots of fabricating frames from one of our favorite materials. Before this technology existed, a steel full-suspension bike was not really a viable option for riders looking for high performance at a reasonable price. Additive manufacturing changed that. By 3D printing the bulky frame components as elegantly shaped hollow structures, we were able to keep weight down while maintaining strength, ride quality, and performance. The SST was an instant hit with reviewers and earned multiple awards including Bikepacking.com "Gear of the Year" and Mountain Bike Action "Editors Choice".
In 2023, we followed up on the success of the SST with the introduction of the STEEZL, our most versatile bike to date. The STEEZL features a steel front triangle to deliver the durability and ride quality we were after, paired with the proven aluminum rear end from the Sqweeb. Its modular rear end allows riders to choose between short or long chain stay lengths, 140mm or 155mm of travel, and full 29” or mixed-wheel configurations. Like the SST, the STEEZL was a hit with both riders and reviewers, earning a nomination as a Bike of the Year finalist from Pinkbike.
The Sam's Pants is our longest-running model currently in production. Originally introduced in 2012 and fully revised for 2020, we hit the pause button on this bike for a couple of years to focus solely on SST and STEEZL production. 2025 felt like the perfect time to bring back an updated version of this fan favorite.
As we enter our 15th year, we’re putting our foot firmly on the gas. This year, we’ll introduce several new products, some familiar, some entirely new, and some reimagined, all crafted with the same attention to detail, built by hand using top-quality ingredients, and with a focus on making things that last.
