The Hooptie is our 2020 lineup response to the bikes the mountain bike pioneers started on. It’s a no frill 29” hardtail mountain bike that can be set up multiple different ways. We built it with 4130 Chromoly steel so it will take a beating. Way better than the heavy pot metal they used in the 30’s. We designed the frame with modern geometry and common part interface for modern mountain bike parts. Ability to run a tapered fork, threaded bottom bracket, and disc compatible 135x10mm spacing wheels means you can likely find parts sitting in the corner of your garage that were killed off by press fit bottom brackets and super duper boost wheels.
I’m sure you’ve heard of a Klunker before. 1930’s-60’s Schwinn twin top tube frame fitted with motorcycle handlebars and wide 26” tires. Charlie Kelly pioneered mountain biking on these bikes in Crested Butte, Co. They took newspaper boy bikes, took off the skinny tires and back swept cruiser bars and swapped them with 2.25” wide dirt tires and dirt bike handlebars. Rumor has it, they would pedal over Pearl pass and skid down into Aspen to bar hop and party in town.
